Zagato Alfa Romeo Division Concept

The Alfa Romeo Division is a design study of a compact sportscar designed for the year 2019. The author is Marco De Toma.

The project was Marco De Toma’s bachelor thesis at IAAD, and was developed in collaboration with Zagato Milano.

The brief was to develop a compact sports car for 2019, a year that marks the 100th Anniversary of the collaboration between Zagato and Alfa Romeo.

The main proportions are defined by a compact length of 4,175 mm, combined with a long wheelbase (2,671 mm) and minimal overhangs, and a very sporty stance underlined by the reduced height of 1,174 mm and large width of 1,971 mm.

The concept was designed to combine the main characteristics of the two brands: sportiness, elegance, aerodynamics and simplicity.

The project began with an analysis of the main styling elements of each brand’s design approach. For Zagato these included aerodynamic performance and functionality-driven aesthetic research.

For Alfa Romeo the sporty “heart” and a design that expresses sensuous beauty through a combination of tense and sinuous lines and muscular surfaces.

Following this analysis, it was decided to create a car that mixed all the main features. The resulting bodywork features two distinct areas: the upper section is more focused on beauty and sensuality, the bottom area is more geared towards aerodynamics.

The front end features a sleek, interpretation of the Alfa Romeo badge finished in carbon fiber, combined with small air intakes at the base of the hood inspired by Zagato’s Giulia TZ2.

The rear end si characterized by circular tail lamp that make the concept easily identifiable as an Alfa Romeo.
